Truck ~ Rail ~ Barge ~ Intermodal

The Simco Road Regional Landfill is located on the Union Pacific main line into Boise, Idaho. The site has a 1,000' siding, which is long enough to house a 100 rail car unit train. The siding location is 04778 yard 4, Track778, Serc #7, IY 266 Simco Rd., Mile Post 415.4

Solid waste containers bring a new reality to waste disposal. Rail infrastructure gives greater freedom in choosing the best disposal site. Rather than force a landfill into an inappropriate location, the use of containers and intermodal transportation networks make it possible to place landfills in ideal environmental settings. Locations that are far from urban centers and their traffic, air quality, and land use conflicts.

Municipal Solid Waste can be shipped in containers that are tightly sealed and can be handled at intermodal facilities where traditional solid waste handling might not be possible. Also, Idaho Waste Systems, Inc. has designed its services to make them available to the largest and the smallest customers.

An alternative to containerized shipping is baled and shrink-wrapped waste, which can be transported via barge, and then loaded into gondola, center-beam or bulk-head rail cars.

Another option is regional transfers, with municipalities, counties, etc. working in concert for more favorable rate conditions. Most waste-by-rail shipments are dedicated to one large customer whose waste is transported directly to one distant point. However, IWS regional disposal system is made up of several intermodal hubs along the rail line.

We have close associations with Barge Transport companies operating along the West Coast, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Columbia River. The barge option creates opportunities never before available. We can bale and then barge MSW to the most economically viable location and then offload and rail the waste to the Landfill. Some of our partners are listed below:
